Description
The primary purpose of this project was to explore the use of high-performance filters in residences to better understand the factors that impact the particle removal performance and energy consequences of filters. The central effort of the investigation was a year-long field campaign in 20 homes, each of which had four levels of filtration (nominal MERV 8 uncharged media, and MERV 8, MERV 11, and MERV 14 charged-media), each installed for three months. The homes were monitored continuously for some variables and episodically for others with the goal of providing as complete a picture as possible on the role of filtration, and its context, in each home.To our knowledge, this is the largest investigation of residential filtration that has occurred globally.
