Description

This paper presents a low-temperature air-conditioning system capable of producing 40°F(4.44°C) dry-bulb supply air directly to the conditioned space. The system consists of a liquid overfeed refrigeration plant, a central air-handling unit, and an air distribution system utilizing high-induction supply diffusers and/or induction fan terminal units. This system is most suited for buildings that can tolerate relative humidity levels at or below 30%. A description of this system as it applies to a commercial office building is provided. Its major operating and cost advantages are discussed. The process flow schematic and the sizing of major equipment for an eight-story, 240,000ft2 (22,296m2) commercial building will also be discussed.
