Description
For many decades, gas, water and electricity meters have used various mechanical measurement techniques. These techniques have been developed and perfected to combine high accuracy, long service life and low cost. Recent developments in sensing technologies, primarily based on electronics, have made it possible to greatly expand the functionality of utility meters without sacrificing these achievements. Meters that are based on electronic platforms are well suited for incorporating communications devices, thus enabling additional functionality. Let’s see how this has impacted gas, water and electric meters.
