Description
Experiments were conducted in a full-sized facility to provide verification of the results of earlier scale model studies of the cooling load response of a stratified-cooled system. The experiments were designed to provide information on the magnitude of the building cooling load as a function of supply diffuser height, return height, internal load magnitude, and supply airflow rate and temperature.
Measured temperatures were used to determine individual load components. The total of these components was compared to the measured coil load to provide verification that the individual components had been properly identified.
The results indicate that the lower zone of a high-ceiling building can be isolated effectively from potential cooling loads originating in the upper zone by use of an intentionally stratified system. Conclusions include observations related to design and load determination for stratified air conditioning systems.
