Description
The overarching objective of this project is to develop improved models of residential HVAC equipment for use in whole-building energy analysis programs. The models are intended to be compact enough for use in hourly simulation programs, yet detailed enough to allow direct comparison among individual equipment products.
This work will lay the groundwork required for a fundamental improvement in the rigor and detail of energy system simulation models of residential equipment. It is recognized that, in order for the models to reach their full potential, this improvement may require extensions to readily available data that can serve as model inputs. The approach here is to proceed with model development, attempting to limit new data requirements to the minimal and practical, and to assess the impact of additional data on model performance.
The scope of the model development and data analysis for this project is limited to air-source vapor compression equipment. The work involves the development and evaluation of equipment models for energy calculations and the specification of model data requirements.
