Description
This paper discusses the results of an analysis of an energy conservation retrofit in a grocery store. The retrofits consisted of modifications to the interior and exterior lighting systems and refrigeration systems. Comparisons are made between the energy consumption before and after the retrofit. In addition, the impact of the retrofit on the annual and daily load shapes is assessed. Overall, the annual total consumption decreased by 17%, from 86.4 kWh/ft2 (294.9 kBtu/ft2) to 71.8 kWh/ft2 (245.1 kBtu/ft2). Refrigeration energy, the largest annual end-use load, decreased by 10% from 56.2 kWh/ft2 (191.9 kBtu/ft2) to 51.0 kWh/ft2 (174.1 kBtu/ft2). Internal lighting, the second largest end use, dropped 36% from 20.6 kWh/ft2 (70.2 kBtu/ft2) to 13.2 kWh/ft2 (45.0 kBtu/ft2).
