NO-94-01-3 — Combustion Turbine Inlet Air Cooling Using Ammonia-Based Refrigeration for Capacity Enhancement

$7.50

Conference Proceeding by ASHRAE, 1994

Category:

Description

Combustion turbines have historically been used to meet peak demands of electric utilities Combustion turbine capacity is directly affected by inlet air temperature, and performance degrades as the inlet air temperature rises. Inlet air cooling using thermal energy (ice) storage (TES) can be used to counteract this performance decline. Inlet air cooling systems were constructed for eight combustion turbines, six of which are combined cycle units. These turbines are installed in a plant, an intermediate load and peak load shaving facility. An engineering firm provided project management, design, and procurements services for the project.

KEYWORDS: combustion, turbines, inlets, air, cooling, ammonia, refrigerants, ice storage, refrigeration, performance, energy storage, designing, off peak electricity.
