Conference Proceeding by ASHRAE, 1986

Category:

Description

Calorimeter test rooms are used by manufacturers of room air conditioners for performance testing and energy consumption evaluation. In order to ensure that. these tests are accurate, some means to calibrate the calorimeter room is required. The purpose of this project was to develop and build such a device, which can be reporduced by individual manufacturers. Design requirements are: a variable cooling capacity ranging from 4,000-36,000 Btu/hr (1.2 to 10.5 kW) with capacity control of ±0.5% of set point and a measurement. accuracy of ±0.5% over the entire range. Since these devices are to serve as standards, it is essential to ensure that. claims for accuracy are valid. This paper describes the measuring devices and methods used to attain this accuracy, the evaluation of the system’s accuracy, and the schemes used to ensure continued accuracy in actual use.
