3437 — A Method of Measuring Frost Density Using Flush-Mounted Removable Disks

$7.50

Conference Proceeding by ASHRAE, 1991

Category:

Description

Presents a method of measuring the local density and mass concentration of frost on a surface. Describes experiments in which 14 thin, small discs thermally bonded to a smooth test surface with recessed disc spaces were used for frost sampling. States several tests were repeated in which the height of the frost thickness was measured and disks were weighed after each test run. States the uncertainty of the frost density measurement is expected to be as low as 3% for frost thicknesses from 1.5 mm to 2.0 mm and less than 6% for frost thicknesses greater than 0.5 mm. Compares measured data with those reported in the literature.
