Description
Sets out recommendations for the quantity of thermal insulation which should be added to the roof/ceiling structure of dwellings in various parts of Australia which normally require winter heating. The recommendations are related to an optimization of the cost of thermal insulation and its installation with the cost of energy used for heating dwelling spaces, assuming that in each particular locality the cheapest readily available form of energy is used. Section 2 defines minimum levels of thermal resistance considered to be appropriate for a wide range of locations in each State, and is intended for reference by Regulatory Authorities but may also be used directly by individuals and organizations involved in energy saving through the application of thermal insulation. Section 3 is intended to enable users to make detailed calculations for any location in Australia, if they do not wish to use the recommendations in Section 2. Appendices explain the derivation of the equation used in Section 3 for calculations of additional thermal resistance; provide information and a list of ‘heating numbers’ for various localities; tabulate thermal resistance of building materials, air films, air spaces and roof spaces; and give the background to the recommendations of the Standard along with tables of energy costs for various fuels in each State.
