Description

The comfort zones shown in ASHRAE Standard do not refer to any station or country, or to any climate zones. However, it is now widely acknowledged that there are other factors – of which climate is the most important – involved in arriving at comfort temperatures. And in climate, it is temperature that matters most. Culture and lifestyle are amongst the other factors. These are influenced by regional factors – geographical and coastal for example. It is also necessary to recognize that in large single climatic zones or even in moderately sized climate zones, there will be some stations which will have different characteristic. Accordingly, it is becoming necessary to appreciate the need for different comfort temperatures even in the same climate zone. And when we take into consideration Culture, life style and all the rest of the influences on the perception of comfort, an altogether new way of looking at it becomes necessary.
