Advances in computing power allow researchers and scientists to view and analyze vast quantities of data in creative ways. Fields as diverse as earth science, finance and medicine are using new data visualization techniques to create color displays of all of the world’s ocean temperatures at a given time, a 3-D image map of all mortgage defaults in the United States and 3-D images of sections of the human heart.
