Description
Thorough processing of a refrigeration compressor is essential for a trouble-free system. A poorly processed compressor will result in early failure. By processing, I am referring to the procedure that must be followed to produce a clean, efficient operating machine, assuming that it was originally designed properly to do its intended job. Residual contaminants can be kept to an acceptable low value if reasonable care is practiced during the manufacture, assembly and dehydration of the compressor. It is important to point out that aside from care in the manufacture of equipment, the use of refrigerant filter driers is the primary method of removing contaminants from refrigeration systems. The filter drier should not be considered a substitute for good processing, but as a maintenance tool it is necessary for continued and proper system performance.
For my discussion I will assume that the compressor is properly designed and contains metals, electrical insulation and lubricants that will be compatible with the oil-refrigerant mixture under operating conditions.
