BS PAS 1365:2015 provides recommendations for those involvedin developing a dementia-friendly community, whatareas of a community to consider and what changes toexpect as a result. People with dementia and carers arean integral part of each stage of the process.
It covers:
- how to develop a dementia-friendly community byengaging community stakeholders;
- areas for action within the community that aremeaningful to people with dementia;
NOTE Areas for action include, but are not limited to:- arts, culture, leisure, and recreation;
- businesses and shops;
- children, young people and students;
- community, voluntary, faith groups andorganizations;
- emergency services;
- health and social care;
- housing; and
- transport.
- opportunities for promotion, information sharing andawareness raising, during the development process,and as major accomplishments are completed;
- what to expect as a result of developing a dementiafriendlycommunity.
NOTE Although the process of becoming a dementiafriendlycommunity continues to evolve over time.
It is for use by participants engaged in a stakeholderengagement process.
NOTE 1 Stakeholders may include representativesfrom the community, and representatives from smalland large shops, businesses and industries, localand regional governments, educational institutions,community services such as fire, police, libraries,museums, and the voluntary and faith sectors.
It does not cover a specific checklist of what to do.
NOTE 2 Each community stakeholder group isencouraged to embark on the development process todetermine their own aims and priorities considering theneeds from the perspectives of people with dementialiving in the target community.
