Description
Berkeley Lab has been developing a suite of software tools to simulate window performance since the 1980’s. In this paper we provide an overview of the current state of these window modeling tools. The tools are used for (a) design of products and buildings, (b) energy code compliance and (c) for window and attachment ratings. We describe new modeling features for modeling of awnings and cellular/honeycomb shades. We also introduce the latest ways in which users can access spectral glazing and shading data from the online International Glazing and Shading DataBase (IGSDB). A recent addition to the THERM tool is the modeling of dynamic heat and moisture transfer. Finally we introduce PyWinCalc, a set of Python bindings that give access to the thermal and optical calculation routines in WINDOW, which makes it easy to incorporate these calculations into parametric analysis or other non-GUI workflows.
