CH-85-08-4 — Considerations in the Handling and Treatment of Hazardous Gases–A Consulting Firm’s Perspective

$7.50

Conference Proceeding by ASHRAE, 1985

Category:

Description

Following definition of the term “hazardous gases,” the author describes typical consulting firm experiences ranging from public works facilities handling incidental quantities of explosive and toxic gases to industrial and military installations handling these types of materials as total process flows. The work delineates typical “real case” experiences over a long-term period and identifies typical standards and criteria applicable to dealing with hazardous materials from both worker safety and environmental protection viewpoints.

The author discusses control concepts applicable to several types of contaminants and gives a basis for evaluation and selection of technology. Attention is given to combustion system emissions, particularly those related to the utilization of wastes as an energy source. Municipal and industrial experiences in the disposal of hazardous and nonhazardous refuse and sludge materials are included, with information on appropriate technologies and construction materials for equipment, piping, and ductwork.
