Description
The HVAC system of a large office building (completed in 1987) integrates ice storage, heat recovery, andc old air distribution. By taking advantage of the unique characteristics of ice, these technologies were added with a minimal increase in the HVAC budget, yet they will have a significant impact on reducing operating costs.
This paper explains how the HVAC system was designed to incorporate these technologies and provides ideas and information that may help the designer develop cost-effective ice storage systems. This paper includes:( 1) documentation of the incremental construction costs and projected savings for these technologies and (2) details of the HVAC system design and operation.
