Description
Anyone who is familiar with the business of making and selling residential air conditioners and heat pumps, is well aware of the impact which the enactment of the Energy Policy and Conservation act of 1974 by the U.S. government has had on this industry. Much has been written (see for example Ref 1 and 2) about the study conducted by the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) and the resulting test procedure developed by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The authors assume that the reader is familiar with these test procedures and will only give a brief review.
In this paper only those tests associated with the cooling of the indoor air will be discussed. The test procedure calls for two steady state wet indoor coil test (Tests A and B), one steady state dry indoor coil test (Test C) and one cyclic dry indoor coil test (Test D). The test procedure also calls for the use of dampers during the cyclic test.
