DC-2772 (RP-238) — Tobacco Smoke Odor Control-Development of a Test Model

$7.50

Conference Proceeding by ASHRAE, 1983

Category:

Description

Studies were conducted to determine whether a specific tobacco smoke odor simulant (Formula #9) could be used as a test reagent for evaluating the effectiveness of experimental gaseous filtering media. To evaluate this reagent, a test apparatus was constructed whereby both tobacco smoke and the tobacco smoke simulant could be introduced and vapor-phase components characterized both up- and downstream of the filter with respect to time. Gas samples were collected on porous polymer sorption collectors and thermally desorbed directly into a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry system. The potential usefulness of the tobacco smoke simulant on the test filter was evaluated by measuring the percentage breakthrough of the various low and high molecular weight components of the mixture.
