Description
In Canada, approximately one he.lf of all energy consumed is used to produce indoor conditions for human comfort for which thermal comfort consumes most of the energy. As energy requirements for the production of differing qualities of indoor environments vary greatly the question as to what constitutes necessary, desirable, or extravagant environments must be addressed. As Public Works Canada is the largest manager and owner of commercial office space in Canada, the importance in energy conservation terms of setting a correct.performance goal is readily apparent. Our managers, designers, and tenants must know and accept what actually constitutes a reasonable and desirable environment, that is producable and maintainable, for which the necessary energy expenditures can be justified to all affected parties including the Canadian Public who, in ,the long run, will be asked to bear most of the costs and accept the energy depletions of non-renewable resources that may result.
