HI-85-37-2 — Equivalent Thermal Parameters for an Occupied Gas-Heated House

$7.50

Conference Proceeding by ASHRAE, 1985

Category:

Description

Regression analysis of energy use data from an occupied gas-heated house in Windsor, Ontario, has permitted determination of equivalent thermal parameters (ETPs) describing various energyrelated characteristics of the house. Data on furnace gas use, electricity consumption, indoor dry-bulb temperatures, and on-site weather variables including outdoor dry-bulb temperature, wind speed and direction, and total horizontal insolation were collected hourly for a 13-month period. The regression analyses, using both dynamic and steady-state models to describe the energy performance of the house, were run for periods of differing lengths and time of year during the heating season. The equivalent thermal parameters resulting from both types of models are compared to one another and also to ETPs calculated from simulation programs. The prediction of energy use for a particular time period using the ETPs from data for another time period is also discussed.
