Description
Safeguard lives on the line with better respiratory protection using this expanded edition of NFPA 1852.
Make sure life-supporting SCBA will work as intended when it’s needed most. Protect fire fighters and other emergency services personnel with NFPA 1852, Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Open-Circuit Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus. This important standard provides criteria for the selection, purchase, proper care, and maintenance of open-circuit SCBA, required by the respiratory protection program in NFPA 1500™, Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program.
The 2019 edition is now the selection, care, and maintenance standard for both NFPA 1986 and NFPA 1981.
To reflect NFPA 1852’s expanded scope, references to NFPA 1986, Standard on Respiratory Protection Equipment for Tactical and Technical Operations have been added throughout the standard where needed. This edition of NFPA 1852 also adds new requirements for reporting adverse conditions involving SCBA, including removal from service, securing SCBA and restricting access, and documenting the chain of custody. This change helps users comply with NFPA 1986 requirements for organizations to provide to the SCBA manufacturer data logging and photo or video evidence of the specific adverse condition.
This edition of the standard also provides:
- A new chain of custody form in an Annex
- Clarifications for when SCBAs must be upgraded or retired
Get up-to-speed on rules that improve safety for SCBA users.
The 2019 edition also includes updated references to other NFPA documents, requirements for the qualifications of SCBA technicians, and program quality assurance. (Softbound, 40 pp., 2019)
