Description
This paper discusses the use of microcomputer programs in HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning) and solar energy courses. Our philosophy is to teach computer fluency while hopefully enhancing the students’ engineering education. All of the software given to students was developed by the author on a pocket computer with 2.2K of memory. Five program listings are distributed after covering the material and working problems hy hand and calculator. A commercial program for solar system analysis is also demonstrated. These programs serve to demonstrate some of the capabilities of computers and to give the students additional tools that can be used to complete the course work, which includes comprehensive design projects.
