Description
THE NEW CULTURE OF BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING
I have taught Autodesk Revit to engineers in four countries on three continents and have found that the first step in a successful transition to Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodology is a reminder that drafting is a cultural project delivery procedure, with roots in the Italian Renaissance. It is easy to forget that, like written language or flush toilets, engineered systems are human contrivances with limitations inherent inthe system architecture.
This paper will compare the challenge of leaving behind the familiar vector drawing, tabular schedule, written specification method of building design to the challenge of embracing and teaching BIM to an international audience. In all cases, a willingness to look for fundamentalsimilarities and to ascertain fundamental differences in project delivery is key to success.
