Description
Notes the events in the 1980s which combined to create a demand for desiccant-based air conditioning equipment – indoor air quality, demand for comfort and improved humidity control. Lists and discusses six criteria, the presence of one or more of which indicates that desiccant systems should be considered for an application: low sensible heat ratios, low humidity requirements, need for more fresh air, availability of exhaust post cooling, low thermal energy costs and economic benefit to dry ductwork. Concludes by considering how a particular desiccant-based air conditioning should be applied when an application has been identified.
