Description
It was the objective of this study to determine the effectiveness of various roller shadesystems and their installation with respect to their efficiency in decreasing heat lossesthrough windows. Specifically we determined the effectiveness of:
- Seven different shade fabrics with somewhat different material characteristics
- Three different mounting systems, and
- The use of multiple layers of shade fabrics.
These experiments were designed to separate the effects of radiative, conductive and convectiveheat transfer, at least on a qualitative basis. The measurement of heat transfer through awindow modified by a roller shade system was done in the laboratory using a device called the Window Thermal Transmission Apparatus.
