RP-1160 — Limited Criteria for Human Exposure to Low Humidity

$15.00

Report / Survey by ASHRAE, 2002

Category:

Description

The objective of the study was to provide a rational basis for informed decisions on measures that might be taken to raise indoor air humidity levels. While low indoor humidity may have some negative effects on human health, comfort or productivity, it is known to have a positive effect on perceived air quality in the short term, so both positive and negative effects were studied. Furthermore, as prolonged exposure to low humidity might either increase or decrease the intensity of such effects, the study included exposures ranging from a few hours to two weeks. The primary focus was on buildings, but a secondary objective was to study the negative effects that might occur during short-term exposure to very low humidity levels in aircraft.

The project consisted of two experiments – a laboratory experiment and a field intervention experiment. The laboratory portion was conducted in the period of April to June, 2001. The field intervention portion was conducted in the period of January to February 2002.
