RP-389 — Determination of Performance of a System Designed for Stratified Cooling in Operation During the Heating Season

$15.00

Report / Survey by ASHRAE, 1987

Category:

Description

A stratified, or stratified-cooled, air conditioning system is one which provides space cooling in the lower, occupied zone of a building while leaving the upper zone uncooled. The upper zone will, in general, reach some level of temperature, higher than that of the lower zone, due to natural buoyancy effects producing thermal stratification.

The intent of the work reported here was to determine by experimentation the heating-season performance of a system designed for cooling-season operation as a stratified/cooled system. Details of the cooling-season performance are reported in a companion paper.
